Centre’s Welcome

The foundation to our centre philosophy is born from relationships; equal partnerships between children, educators, families and community and the environment. These relationships are established on the culture of kindness, through caregiving moments and our daily interactions. Our centre is a place of wonder for children, where they are able to engage in endless opportunities;  where curiosity, excitement and wonder, and spontaneous imagination are nurtured. It is a place of laughter and joy, of friends and memories.

We are extremely excited to be part of this learning journey, seeing our children as competent and capable learners. We agree with Loris Malaguzzi when he said that: “Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning how to learn.” When you enter our centre, you have a feeling of that “home away from home” where children are valued as free and equal human beings, supported to develop and explore in their own time and at their readiness.

Through our everyday environment we offer each child the ‘known’ through consistency, taking time and reciprocal communication. Our educators role model the Centre values within their practice; their journeys enriched with passion and joy as they learn alongside one another in an environment which empowers the child to fulfill their rights for expression in many different ways, creating opportunities to discover their individual identities.

We are strongly influenced by the Reggio Emilia Approach and we are always striving to incorporate aspects of this within our Programme. This is reflected through our group meetings with the children; the way we ‘listen’ to the children; the flexibility and respectfulness we give to time; the support and encouragement that we give as teachers to the children and the partnership / relationship we have with the children in learning together. In 1991, Newsweek Magazine proclaimed the Diana School of Reggio Emilia as being the best and most innovative preschool, in the world, representing the pedagogical approach of the municipal infant toddler centres and preschools of Reggio Emilia. We believe that this approach fits very comfortably with our national Early Years Learning Framework released by the Australian Government in 2009 and meeting all requirements under the National Quality Framework.

We truly believe in parent and family participation as fundamental for future extension of the daily life of Currumbin Pines, embracing partnership with both local and wider communities and celebrating the rich diversity of the languages and cultural significance that families bring to our everyday experiences. Join us on this journey towards celebrating the best learning outcomes for our children.
